US tax nonfilers: consider other reasons to file

Even if a US taxpayer’s income is below the filing threshold (2021 - $12,550 USD for Single/$25,100 USD for Married filing jointly), there may be benefits to claim any excess tax withholding or credits for dependents such as child tax credit or earned income tax credit (CTC/EITC). Also, to claim a US-Canada Treaty position, Form 8833 disclosure must be filed with U.S. personal tax or corporate tax returns if only on a protective basis.
